Beta Chi Sigma Chartered - 1953
The Beta Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on June 12, 1953, by six dedicated local educators. From these humble beginnings, the chapter has evolved into a beacon of honorable service for the Pine Belt and surrounding communities. Established during a challenging period marked by racial and gender prejudices, these pioneering women remained steadfast in their commitment to the Sigma Gamma Rho motto: “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” They responded to the urgent call for social and civic engagement, striving to enhance the quality of life for women and children in their area. Today, the current members of Beta Chi Sigma take great pride in continuing the legacy of these remarkable women and building upon their successes.
